About Us

Welcome (Akwaaba) to the Department of Geography and Rural Development. We are a pleasant and dynamic Department with a thriving research culture that is shared by academic staff, research collaborators and our students both at the Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. At the undergraduate level, the Department offers BA Geography and Rural Development and BA Culture and Tourism. At the postgraduate level, the Department offers MPhil and PhD in Geography and Rural Development.

Geography takes you places! Have you ever seen the Cape Coast and Elmina Castles, The Canopy Walkway at the Kakum National Park, Boti Waterfalls, Boabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary and the rich traditions of Ghana? If not then you are missing out. Just as the first Black American President Barack Obama was lost of words, when he visited the Cape Coast Castle, we believe that will be exactly how you will feel, on your visit.

Since Tourism is travel for recreational, leisure or business purposes we believe Ghana’s rich tourism sites can be developed to generate returns for the country. It is for this reason that KNUST offers BA Culture and Tourism in the Department of Geography and Rural Development to train interested students to manage and develop Ghana’s épatant tourism resources for national development. The Department has structured curricular, that aims at developing both the intellectual, conceptual and interpersonal skills of students. We hope you pay us a visit in person.
